Fed up paying ridiculous petrol prices? Save money with a free Pipeline Card!
This is a good idea. If you’re a car user in the UK, it’s worth a try. If you don’t want to use your normal email just get a new email address (I can even send you a GMail invite).
Credit card (un)limit(ed) is bad for your health 9 Jan 2006

Ireland bans credit limit hikes
Banks in Ireland will soon be banned from raising a customer’s borrowing limit on a credit card without getting their permission first.
This can only be a good thing. I’ve had one or more credit cards for the last ten years or so, and it is always very difficult to get into the discipline of not spending what you don’t have. Even if you set it up so you pay the balance in full every month. So much so that for now I have discontinued the use of credit cards except where it makes sense to use the built-in protection from non-delivery of goods etc.
Finding a blog client that works with WDevs.com 9 Jan 2006

For my programmer’s blog The Software Toolsmith, the otherwise excellent Performancing extension on Firefox didn’t work well with the Metaweblog API. So while waiting for an updated version I decided to look around for another client. Blog Writer from Zoundry seems to work well. So I’ll settle on that for now.

I needed a spreadsheet that I can access from anywhere, and found Num Sum. Quite cool really. A bit slow in Firefox 1.5, but usable, and cool nonetheless.

The end of an era… 4 Jan 2006

Today was a sad day for us. Our family’s best friend went back, for good, to Indonesia. They’ve been here in Sheffield since 1999, even before we arrive in September 2000. We both only had one kid that year. Since then a lot has happened. Each family got one more kid. We started a whole series of annual events, sharing interests, the two most prominent ones being
camping and watching the extended editions Lord of the Rings… (Oh, let’s not forget the New Year eves….). Not one, not two, but three PhDs also emerged.
Sadly we have to part ways today. We decided to stay here, and they, as always planned, went back to Indonesia. Surprisingly there were no obvious tears at the airport (can’t say the same at the time of writing this post though
).
I sincerely hope we can always be in touch, good friends are hard to find, best friends are one in a million (cliche I know, but now I know why they became cliches!).
Cheers to Yandi, Mita, Bagus, and Tari! The end of the Third Age… The Fourth Age has begun!

Dita Sardjono posted an elegant post about a free software project I am starting up. There was a change of heart for the name though, it is now Frugaliser.
